“I have been working for 12 years in my current company and got no major raise” a client told me.
“I feel like nobody sees me, except when they need me. I want to have a better salary and be appreciated, but I don’t understand why this does not happen.”
One question I asked to work on this was: how do you “see” and take care of yourself? Following our coaching and mentoring sessions, we found out that she always put herself last. Always prioritizing her colleagues, family and friends asks and rarely finding time for herself.
Most of the time minimizing the effort, answering the thanks received with “no problem, that was no big deal”. This impacted her professional image, creating the perception that she did all with not much effort.
So, everything she did was in the range of “expected” and taken for granted. The coaching helped her realize how much time and energy she put, which were not seen and valued by others. And that she could only be seen as a dedicated and senior professional if she better acknowledged and promoted her efforts and accomplishments.
We made a list of accomplishments and a deep dive into how these impacted the team’s and business performance.
Turned out there was a major positive impact💰. This helped her work on her self awareness and increase her self confidence.
This is how she started to emphasize her contribution explicitly in the team and thus increased her visibility.
What do you do to make you and your positive contribution be seen?
