{"id":4688,"date":"2024-03-19T10:45:43","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T10:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eugenialungu.com\/?p=4688"},"modified":"2024-03-19T11:07:45","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T11:07:45","slug":"people-manager-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eugenialungu.com\/ro\/people-manager-for-the-first-time\/","title":{"rendered":"How should I behave when I am a people manager for the first time?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I had one client working with me as she was promoted to a people manager role. <\/strong>Her first role of this sort.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHow should I behave, now that I am a people manager?\u201d<\/em> she asked.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI am not sure whether or not I should still be myself or start behaving in a different manner. I think I should change my behaviour since a people manager must be tough, decisive and very results oriented\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWho would you be, if not yourself?\u201d<\/em> I asked her.<\/p>\n<p>We worked a lot on her self awareness and on the differences between \u201cbeing\u201d and \u201cdoing\u201d. We also clarified her role as a new people leader, the mission she received and the performance indicators she was required to reach.<br \/>\nOur coaching sessions revealed that &#8220;doing&#8221; seemed to her conditioned by &#8220;being&#8221;. She was assuming she would have to become a different person and put a \u201cmask\u201d following her promotion, to demonstrate she is able to do the job and produce results.
